What type of angry are you? A ticking time bomb, just seconds away from exploding? A passive aggressive master manipulator? Anger isn't always a dirty word. If we can channel it well, anger can be a force for good: sounding a signal that we need to listen carefully. Anger has inspired great art, given a voice to the oppressed and fuelled the type of activism that leads to positive change.
Ignore it at your peril. Left unattended, anger can not only have a negative effect on relationships, jobs and family life - it can also lead to increased health risks including stroke, heart disease, pain and immune system problems.
Most of us don’t have the tools to manage strong emotions. And anger is one of the strongest us humans experience. Anger can be scary, both when it rises within us and when we’re on the receiving end of someone else’s rage. Channelled correctly, though, it’s one of our most powerful teachers.
