Beginners Shibori - More Techniques!

Instructor: Rob Jones

This session expands the range of Shibori techniques, focusing on clamped resist techniques, known as Itajime.

What you will learn:

This workshop will teach the three basic folding techniques for preparing fabric for clamp resist dyeing, known as "Kikko" – equilateral triangles, right angle triangles and squares. These can be varied in many ways to achieve different effects.

Binding, stitching, free clamping and board clamped techniques will be covered.

The tutor will provide various different boards and clamps and demonstrate how these can be used to produce a number of varied patterns using indigo.

Different clamps can be used on the same piece to achieve different effects.

You will also learn the Sekka (snowflake) technique.

The tutor will also teach you how to unpick your finished work and reveal your designs.

You will also learn how to dye with indigo using a pre-prepared vat.

This course is aimed at beginners but any and all levels welcome.  Must be over 16 years old to attend.

NOTE: Fabrics must be natural fibres, cotton or linen is ideal, and must have been washed and dried in advance of the workshop to remove any residue.
